Dr. Moneta is Professor of Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and the Knight Cardiovascular Institute. He served as Chief of Vascular Surgery at OHSU for 17 years. His bibliography includes over 400 chapters and articles and he has given 540 invited presentations world-wide. Academic interests focus on critical limb ischemia, venous disease, the noninvasive vascular laboratory, upper extremity vascular disease, mesenteric vascular disease and carotid disease. He has served as President of the Western Vascular Society, President of the Pacific Northwest Vascular Society, President of the Portland Vascular Society and President of the American Venous Forum and Editor for the Yearbook of Vascular Surgery (10 years), Peripheral Vascular Disease Reviewer/Editor for the Cochrane Library for 18 years, and as an assistant or associate editor for the Journal of Vascular Surgery for 16 years. He is also a member of numerous other editorial boards and many surgical societies and has been a member of 12 NIH study sections and has been a principal or co- investigator on 20 industry or government grants and served in an advisory capacity to the FDA, Institute of Medicine, CMS and U.S. Preventive Health Services. For SVS he served on 10 committees including the document review committee and as chairman of the program, research and fellows committees. At OHSU, Dr. Moneta has served on 17 institutional and departmental committees. Currently he is Chairman of the OHSU Department of Surgery Promotion and Tenure Committee. He is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College (summa cum laude) and Harvard Medical School. His general and vascular surgery residencies were at the University of Washington with an additional fellowship in microvascular physiology at the University of Zurich. He holds board certification in vascular surgery and has been on the faculty at OHSU since 1988. He has three grown daughters and one grandchild and lives on a river in West Linn, Oregon with his wife, 2 dogs, and 2 chickens!
